Frequently Asked Questions
Do you take insurance?
I run a private pay practice to be able to provide high touch care to my clients. This concierge model allows me to offer support and skills coaching in between sessions, holistic services not covered by insurance, therapy without requiring a diagnosis (which allows for more freedom in my clinical approach), and a higher level of privacy and confidentiality.
However, in order to be accessible to clients who prefer to use their insurance, I use third party insurance billing services, Alma and Headway, to take some insurances. These services require a diagnosis.
Please reach out to me and I’m happy to explore ways to make therapy accessible for you.
Can I opt out of using insurance, even if I have it?
Yes, we are able to opt out so you can benefit from skills coaching, holistic counseling, spiritual-based approaches when desired, more private therapy without a diagnosis, and more flexible care.
When you say "complementary holistic practices," what does that mean?
It means I blend supportive practices with more traditional clinical practices. This may look like:
-
Aromatherapy: Using essential oils to ground the nervous system during a session.
-
Mindfulness & Meditation: Teaching you to observe “food noise” or physical sensations without judgment.
-
Somatic Tools: Breathing techniques or gentle movement to help process the body-image shifts that happen with rapid weight loss.
-
Nature-Based Therapy: Using the outdoors to offset overstimulation and promote nervous system regulation.
- Therapeutic Art: Guided activities for self-reflection, skill integration, self-care and emotional processing.
- Spiritual Reflection: Therapeutic journaling and counseling pertaining to themes of identity, worth, hope, and positive coping from a spiritual standpoint.
I don't live in California, can you still work with me?
I am pending licensure to provide psychotherapy via telehealth to residents of Florida and West Virginia, and hopefully more states in the future. If you’re in another state, I’m happy to speak with you and find resources in your area.
Do you offer "camera off" therapy?
Yes, I can provide therapy over the phone or videocall.
Have you had bariatric surgery or taken GLP-1 medication?
I haven’t, which means I won’t overidentify with your struggles and lose my objectivity. However, I have personally participated in diet programs such as betr health and weight watchers, and I have my own personal fitbit graveyard. I also lost a parent to untreated binge eating disorder in my late teen years, which provides a sense of purpose to my work.
Why do you work only with women?
I am happy to provide free consultations to male clients and refer them to a qualified colleague. However, my practice is designed to address the specific social and emotional challenges women face during significant weight loss. By focusing solely on women, I’m able to provide a more deeply tailored therapeutic space for this specific life transition.
Who's your favorite boy band?
Okay, no one has asked me this. But *Nsync obviously.
Are you going to judge me?
Never! I work with the understanding that you are human. My primary concern is your success and mental well-being, and being judgmental would not be very helpful to those goals.
Do you work from any particular spiritual lens?
I believe that spiritual reflection and spiritual self-care can be an important aspect of many women’s lives, and relevant to mental health.
I do not work from any particular spiritual lens, and I am open to working with clients of all faith backgrounds. If you are not interested in spirituality, it does not have to be a part of your counseling. There is nothing too “out there” or “woo woo” for me, and I am open-minded about my clients’ views.
